Other Scandalous Dance
Videos....

Here is a list of videos I feel Michael Flatley looked to for inspiration (or was at least subconsciously affected by) when he created Lord of the Dance:

1. Showgirls
This hilarious piece of filth attempted to "expose" the sleazy world of Las Vegas stage shows...unfortunately, all it did was (over) expose many young women...my favourite scene is the one where Elizabeth Berkley's character (Nomi) gets revenge on the guy who raped her best friend by kicking him repeatedly...(she's wearing nothing but leopard print "daisy-dukes" and thigh high high heeled boots...)  I give this movie a 10 for hilarity...(and it's not even sexy!)

2. Stayin' Alive
This Sylvester Stallone directed sequel to Saturday Night Fever is just terrible...but very campy.  John Travolta returns as Tony Manero, who, in this flick attempts to break into the sleazy world of Broadway dancing...the dance scene at the end is not to be missed..... I highly suggest it if you need a laugh.

3. Saturday Night Fever
This one is really good...I reccommend it.  The dancing is great, but so is the story...I just love watching John Travolta in his platform shoes and white polyester leisure suit....

4. Lambada
A math teacher...(I think it was math...oh well) who teaches a sexy latin dance at night...This one just tried to exploit the latin craze of the early 90's...I just can't wait till they do "Macarena, the movie"!

5. The Forbidden Dance
If I'm not mistaken, this one is about a Brazillian tribal princess who has to save her people by winning a Lambada contest.....

6. Dirty Dancing
Jennifer Grey before her nose job...not a bad movie...a bit cheezy, but at least they're not wearing as many sequins....

7. Lap Dancing
Makes Showgirls look like "Gone With The Wind".  This one is about a farm girl who moves to Hollywood, wanting to be an actress.  When the film producers tell her that she needs to get some life experience, she becomes a lap dancer...it's really just another lame excuse to get
chicks who can't act naked. (Don't ask why I saw this one...please!)

8. Rooftops
West Side Story wannabe, minus the charm, but with lots of cursing thrown in.

9. Country Line Dancing made easy for beginners
I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon than watching a bunch of people trying to learn to Line Dance...

10. Richard Simmons, sweatin' to the oldies...all volumes.
Richard Simmons wears about as many sequins as MF's entire cast, but I just have to commend him for his mission to make everyone in America thin...

11. The "expressive dance" sequence from the end of "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion"
Although technically not a dance movie, this sequence, starring Mira Sorvino, Lisa Kudrow and Alan Cumming always makes me pee my pants....

12. Footloose
Another 80's "teens vs. adults" movie...in this one, dancing is banned in a small town...and it's up to Kevin Bacon to change that tragic circumstance.....

13. Cannibal: The Musical
Okay, so it's not really a dance video, but it IS extremely cheezy with poor production values...plus it has a chorus line in it...

14. Baseketball, the football players doing an Irish routine very early on in the film
This is an honorable mention, of course, since Baseketball came out long after LotD.  I just saw a resemblence between the football player dancers and some of the LotD dance corps...

There are probably many more out there...if you have any suggestions, or think I left something out of my reviews, let me know, I'd love to hear from you! (You know the email addy)
